Impec Group’s partnership with a public utility company involved the planning and relocation of approximately 430 employees from eight locations in Sacramento & Auburn to the 140K square foot regional center in Auburn, California. The three-phase consolidation project included: Service Planning, Hydro, Land Planning, Gas and Electric Mapping, Electric T-Line, Fleet Operations, Materials Warehouse and IT groups.
Overview
Problem
Unlike a typical office building relocation, this project needed coordination of multiple detailed move sequencing plans to accommodate challenging logistics for everyone—the move vendors, drayage, and moving company—while working simultaneously at both the origin and destination sites.
Strategy
This project began with facilitating planning meetings between key business units such as Metering, Street Lighting, High Voltage, and Engineering. Together, we assessed materials and equipment inventory for relocation and existing Furniture, Fixtures and Equipment (FF&E) for reuse.
Office Relocations:
Impec Group coordinated the deployment of each step in the process from architects and developers through the array of necessary subcontractors to ensure adherence to the numerous schedules and implementation plans.
Warehouse and Yard Relocation:
Impec Group worked closely with the warehouse fixture vendor, the moving and drayage companies to relocate large items & the yard, and many parts within the two warehouses.
Services Provided:
Included weekly project and operational readiness planning meetings, development of regular communication bulletins for end users, coordination of pre-move clean up, employee communication meetings, and preparation of all move documentation including move out-in floor plans, employee move matrix, detailed move activity schedule, move instructions, move signage, and post move help desk coordination and close out.
Results
Employees of the public utility company are now working out of two very unique buildings that were custom built to their requirements. The final site includes an office trailer, warehouse, yard, and large utility truck parking—all under one roof.
